Custom Home Design Process
Carter believes that good communication is key to creating an enjoyable and rewarding residential design process for his clients. “Their input from the beginning allows for a more successful outcome. Through our collaboration, I can best determine how they want their home to work for them. There is a constancy in communication that continues throughout the entire project, expanding to include the other key professionals involved in making their vision a reality.”
Please read on to learn more about the design process.
Programming
To begin the home design process, Carter first meets with his clients to create a design program, including list of rooms as well as design and material preferences. You’ll discuss how you live day-to-day, what you don’t like about your current home and what features you’d like to keep.
House Plan Design/Development
With an artist’s eye and the knowledge gained during programming, Carter will develop a house plan suited to your lifestyle and design preferences. He’ll meet with you to share his preliminary floor plan and walk you through his thought process and design choices. After meeting, you’ll have time to thoughtfully consider the preliminary home design.
Client Response & Floor Plan Revisions
Design changes? Questions? Now is a great time for feedback. You’ll discuss your thoughts with Carter, who will then tweak and fine-tune the design to more closely align with your needs.
Working Drawings
Once you are happy with the floor plan and elevation, Carter will produce the final house drawings for construction.
House Construction
Once construction begins, Carter is available as needed for on-site consultations with your custom home builder and other key professionals.
